The History:
If not for the foresight of Charles Vermot, there would be no modern Zenith El Primero movements today. The company was sold and moved to manufacturing quartz-based movement timepieces. After being ordered to sell the metal materials, including the dies, machining tools & presses, Vermot hid everything needed to restart production on the El Primero movement inside the factory in a loft area. Years later, when Rolex approached Zenith to produce a mechanical automatic chronograph movement for their Daytona model, Vermot had everything needed to begin production. Shortly after, Zenith began production again of its own mechanical watches using this magnificent movement.
