Tudor Big Block Chronograph Ref 79180, Boxed B624920
About This Watch:
Introduced in 1976, the Tudor Big Block Chronograph is, in many ways, Tudor’s counterpart to the iconic Rolex Daytona. The moniker “Big Block” comes from its heftier case size, designed to fit the robust 7750 automatic movement, which was an advancement over the hand-wind movement of the Daytona from the same period. With a production run from 1976 to 1995, the Big Block hails from Tudor’s lengthy history of chronograph timepieces known for unique styling, unparalleled quality, and unmistakable identifiers.
The History: Tudor began to produce watches in 1926 that could be marketed and manufactured as a more affordable timepiece than the Rolex line while still keeping the same standard of dependability that Rolex had become known for. Over the years, the product line grew to include the renowned Oyster Prince, as well as their diver watches such as the Submariner series.
The Watch: The Tudor Big Block Chronograph Ref 79180 features a 40mm stainless steel case with an acrylic crystal. Powered by a Valjoux 7750 automatic movement, the 79180 features three sub-dial registers at the 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions, as well as a date window at the 3 o’clock position. The fixed bezel is steel, engraved with a tachymeter scale.
The Details: This Tudor Big Block Chronograph Ref 79180 is in very good condition, with a B6xxxxx serial number, dating this piece to the production year of 1995, which was the last year of production for the 79180. There are some minor wear markings around the case, lugs, and case back, which is consistent with a timepiece of this age. This 79180 comes with outer and inner boxes; serial number hang tag, certificate holder, stamped guarantee certificate, and original Tudor Stainless Steel bracelet.
