  • The History:

Seiko began its rich history in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori opened a shop repairing and selling watches in central Tokyo.  Eleven years later, he opened a factory called the Seikosha Factory and began building wall clocks and pocket watches.  After an earthquake and fire destroyed the original factory, Hattori reopened with a new vision, which started what we know as Seiko today.  A true pioneer in watchmaking, Seiko developed the first Japanese-made divers watch.

  • The Watch:

The Seiko 6139-6012 automatic chronograph features a 39mm stainless steel case with a hardlex crystal.  The blue dial features a sunburst pattern with lumed indices, a day and date window at the 3 o’clock position, a sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position, baton-style hour and
minute hands, and an orange chronograph seconds hand.  Powered by the 6139B automatic movement, which was the first automatic chronograph movement produced with a vertical clutch.

  • The Details:

This Seiko Automatic Chronograph Ref 6139-6012 dates to a production period of July 1971.  Wear is present on the bezel and case that is consistent with the age of this watch.  Included with this timepiece is an Uncle Seiko stainless steel bracelet.
