Only slight changes to the aesthetics of the Speedmaster Professional came with the update to Ref 3590.50.00.  It was the first model to have a painted logo on the dial instead of an applied one. The significant change was the update from the Calibre 321 to the Calibre 861 movement.

More Info
  • The History:

The Speedmaster was introduced in 1957 as a sports and racing chronograph, complementing Omega’s position as the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games.  Its iconic place in history stems from its
utilization by NASA for the Gemini Titan III crews and eventually by the astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission, which made it the first watch to be worn on the moon.

  • The Watch:

The Speedmaster Professional 3590.50.00 features a 42mm stainless steel case with twisted lyre lugs, a solid case back with the “First Watch Worn on the Moon” and “Flight Qualified by NASA” engravings, and
plexiglas crystal.  The matte black dial features three sub-dials at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions and tritium lume.  Powered by the manual wind Omega Caliber 861 movement with an approximately 48-hour power reserve.

  • The Details:

This Speedmaster 3590.50.00 dates to the approximate production year of 1991. The hands and hour markers have developed a desirable yellowish patina, and the dial is aging to a gray color.  The case on this piece appears unpolished, with wear present consistent with a timepiece of this age.  This timepiece includes the stainless steel Omega 1479 bracelet with 812 end links.
