Based on the vintage diver, the Certina PH200M, which was released in 1967, comes the DS PH200M. DS, which stands for Double Security, is a trademarked system with a thick rubber seal surrounding the movement inside the case. This seal serves as both an additional measure of water resistance and a shock absorber, protecting the movement from impact.

  • The History:

In 1888, brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth established a watch production facility in Grenchen, Switzerland, at the foot of the Jura mountains.  Quickly growing a reputation for quality timepieces, the company eventually took on the Certina name in 1939.  In 1959, Certina launched a new turtle shell logo representing robustness and longevity and released the trademarked DS system for shock absorption and water resistance.

  • The Watch:

The Certina DS PH200M features a 42.8mm stainless steel case with a solid case back with the Certina Turtle Shell logo and a domed acrylic crystal.  The gloss black dial features painted lume plots for the hour markers, polished sword-style hands lumed with SuperLuminova, and a date window at the 3 o’clock position.  Powered by the Powermatic 80 movement, the DS PH200M features an 80-hour power reserve and a water resistance rating of 200 meters.

  • The Details:

This pre-owned Certina DS PH200M includes an aftermarket red NATO strap. Some wear is present, which is visible in the photographs.
